Arm

To turn the security system on. Most of today’s controls will not allow the system to be armed unless all zones are secure.

 

Access Code

Access Control

Hardware installed to control access to the protected premises. Access Control ensures that the premises are only granted to those users who are entitled to them.

 

Alarm Panel

The "brains" of an Alarm System , which receives information from all the Input Devices (contact, motion detector glass break detectors etc) processes the information and triggers an output device (dialer, siren etc.)

 

Alarm System

A combination of "Input Devices" (contacts at doors & windows , Motion Detectors etc..) , "Processing Unit" (Control Panel ) and "Output Devices" (sirens , Phone Interface, etc..)

 

Alarm Monitoring

The basic idea of alarm monitoring is to inform key holders (people nominated by the premises owner) and emergency services, that the alarm system has been activated.

 

Alarm

An electronic signal, transmitted to the monitoring facility. It indicates that an emergency requiring follow-up has been detected.

 

Alarm Receiving Centre

A Secure location where alarm signals are received/monitored 24hours a day.

Bell Box

A device which gives an audible and usually visual notification of an Alarm activation.

 

Bell Only Alarm System

An alarm system where a siren or bell is activated at the residence. This alarm relies on neighbor to dispatch the police and/or intruder to be scare and run.

 

Burglar Alarm System

An alarm system that, while armed, is designed to detect and report the presence of one or more unauthorized persons on the protected premises.

 

Backup Battery

A rechargeable battery, normally in the control panel enclosure, that provides power to the system in the event that AC power is removed.

Contact - Window/Door

Industry term for the switches that are mounted at doors and windows to inform the control panel of openings and closings.

 

Control Panel

This is the "brains" of the Alarm System , which receives information from all the Input Devices (contact , motion detector etc.) processes the information and triggers an output device (dialer, siren, etc.) It contains an alarm system’s main circuit board, a backup battery, and possibly other components necessary for the control of the system.

 

Communicator

The element on an alarm control device – alarm panel, that automatically dials a central station and relays information about the protected building. It communicates digitally with the central station computer.

 

Camera

"Image Sensor" - harware for capturing visual images.

 

Carbon Monoxide Detector

A detectors that senses abnormal amount of Carbon Monoxide in the surrounding area.

 

CCTV

Closed Circuit Television, used to record events around the protected premises to enable any suspicious activity to be subsequently reviewed.

Disarm

To turn off or de-active the Alarm System.
