Exterior Security
- Trim shrubs around windows and doors that could conceal a burglar.
- Consider installing garden fencing to limit unauthorised entry.
- Darkness and shadows are a burglar's best friend. Use a light-timer to periodically switch on lights to give a "lived-in" appearance when you're not home.
- The use of motion-sensing floodlights will also make it harder for a home invader.
- High fences, trees and shrubs can provide cover for burglars as they attempt to invade your home. Sacrifice the privacy for better visibility. Coupled with ample lighting.
- Plant rosebushes or thorny trees in front of all vulnerable windows.
- Thorny landscaping not only adds beauty to your home, but makes even getting close to such windows an unappealing prospect
- Make sure the gates are locked if you have a fence.
- Trim shrubs and trees so they do not provide hiding places for an intruder. Remove tree limbs that could allow someone to climb to an upper-story window or balcony.
- Keep all points of entry to your home well-lit. Consider installing motion-sensor lights on the rear and sides of your home and position them in out-of-reach places so they can't easily be turned off by a would-be thief.
