ThatchGARD demonstrates it's true potential

Launched in April 2006, ThatchGARD,a unique, intelligent alarm system which alerts owners of thatched properties to the risk of fire well before it starts, is being demonstrated at Chiltern Fire in Buckinghamshire.

John Steel, MyGARD CEO, is demonstrating this innovative new product to media and the thatched property industry on 28th June 2006. Significant demand for the event has resulted in further demonstrations being arranged in the next three weeks.

With 90 per cent of thatch fires resulting from heat transfer from the chimney to the adjacent thatch, ThatchGARD prevents fires from starting by tackling the root cause of the problem.

Two probes installed in the thatch next to the chimney continuously monitor the temperature. This is communicated back to a control unit, via a radio link, which sounds an alarm once it reaches levels which could cause the thatch to char and ultimately ignite. Alarms sound at ‘early warning’ and ‘danger’ levels which alert people in the building, as well as the dedicated ThatchGARD monitoring centre, who will contact up to six key holders or the fire service to take action.

ThatchGARD is the result of over 10 years of research and development and is designed to be an integral part of household management, integrating with existing security and fire alarms for added peace of mind.

The device costs less than £1 per day including installation and three years maintenance and monitoring.

ThatchGARD’s offices are based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
